Writing an article
Simply click the "New Post" button on your dashboard to start writing your next article.
Article title and description
First, enter your working title, you can update this to your final article title later. Meanwhile, adding a short description or summary is completely optional, though we highly advise doing so to help your article stand out on search engine results and social media shares.
Content: Body
The main text area is where you write your article. While writing, if you highlight any part of your text, a helpful toolbar will gently pop up to offer these text formatting tools:
- Regular text
- Headings (h1, h2, and h3)
- Blockquote
- Code block
- Bold
- Italics
Strikethrough- Inline code
- Insert link
- Text alignment (left, center, right)
Content: Adding images
We want your articles to be visually engaging for your readers. This is why we made sure you can easily insert photos into your content:
- by simply dragging and dropping an image file straight into the text editor,
- by clicking the convenient image icon found on your classic editor toolbar,
- through the forward-slash command menu for the modern editor.
Content: Inserting blocks
Mochott is packed with many built-in blocks to make your writing experience smooth. These are:
- Task List: a checklist box, useful for ToDo type lists
- Code Block: for programming snippets
- Embed: an easy way to embed YouTube, Spotify, Mastodon, and X (f. Twitter) content
- Table: tabular data made easy
- Callout: cool boxes for important information, warnings, and helpful tips
- Toggle: for adding a collapsible section
- Footnote: for adding citations and references
- Math Block: for displaying mathematical equations in a block format
- Inline Math: for inserting math equations without breaking the flow of your sentence
- Link Card: a visual card for generating rich URL previews
- Custom Blocks: embed custom HTML/CSS blocks made by you, or by other users, into your articles
Editing: Switching editors
Here in Mochott, we want to make sure you have the best writing experience so you can focus on your articles. We offer three editors that you can switch to on-the-fly without disrupting your workflow:
- Modern: a fast forward-slash (
/) command editor - Classic: a familiar rich-text editor
- Markdown: a syntax-based editor
For our Modern editor, simply typing a forward-slash (/) on a new line will open your vertical formatting menu. If you, on the other hand, you are using our Classic editor, clicking the plus (+) icon on a new line will open the exact same menu for you.
Editing: Outline view
When your articles grow informatively long, it is crucial to review your structure. Opening our "outline" ("Table of Contents") panel allows you to easily check your headings and sections at a single glance.
Adding a cover image
Your cover image serves as your article's banner, if carefully chosen, it can help grow your readership. Cover images appear across article lists and whenever your articles are shared on social media platforms.
We highly encourage you to always add a fitting cover image for your work; otherwise, a generic Mochott cover image will appear in article lists and when your article link is shared.
Meta: Choosing a category and adding tags
As we mentioned before, our community and you are our core focus. Because we want your work to be easily discovered, we created a predefined selection of categories and gave you the full power to add your own custom tags.
- Category: kindly select a single category from our predefined list to best group your work within the Mochott community.
- Tags: feel free to add multiple keywords that accurately define your article, which is also shared with Standard.site-compatible apps.
Meta: Assign a custom article slug
When you publish your articles, the final part of your article's URL is what we call a slug. Depending on your chosen setup, it will look like these examples:
mochott.site/your-handle/article-slug/mochott.site/your-minisite/article-slug/your-minisite.your-domain.top/article-slug/
You can safely leave this blank, and our system will generate a random slug for you (such as ghLrmbsLuUr8). However, we highly advise setting a custom slug like my-first-post, as this significantly helps surface your articles in search engine results.
Meta: Setting content warnings
We deeply value the comfort, safety, and peace of mind of your community, the global ATmosphere network, and the social web. To help with this, we built a system to let you easily set content warnings or advisory notices for your articles as you see fit. We kindly ask you to use this feature as necessary so your dear readers, the Mochott community, and the social web, can enjoy reading blogs with total confidence and comfort.
Publishing a new article
Once you are ready to share your work with the world, simply click the "Publish" button. Our system will immediately make your new article visible and:
- showcased within the Community Directory on the front page of Mochott
- neatly listed under your chosen category
- tagged under the specific keywords you have added
- displayed directly on your author profile page
- instantly delivered to the dashboard of your loyal readers
- easily discovered on various Standard.site-compatible apps
- completely ready to be shared with your friends on other social media platforms
Save as draft
Please do not worry if your article needs a bit more polishing, you can simply click the "Save Draft" button at any time. You can always return to your unfinished works whenever inspiration strikes or until you feel completely ready to share them with the public.
Aside from manual saving, our system automatically saves your drafts the moment we detect any changes. If your browser accidentally closes, please rest assured that your most recent edit is safely stored.

Mochott also offers a smart post-scheduling feature to help you manage your time. Simply click the "Schedule" button right beside "Publish" to choose the exact date and time you want your new article to be published. This is incredibly helpful if you have written multiple articles in advance, allowing you to strategically publish your new articles.
